Spring bouquet / Record April temps

This weekend I received a very special bouquet.  Our wanderings took us to a field of clover and lawn daisies.  My son gathered the flowers and greenery as he played at a favorite park.  The weather was GLORIOUS! Temperatures in the mid-80’s!

The plants in spring are so lush.  Full of juice and potential.  Bursting forth from the ground, noticably taller over the course of the day.  These flowers he gave me felt like a gift of welcoming, welcoming us back to the intensely productive season of gardening.

The gardener must be productive as well.  Dave and I pulled many juicy weeds from the still saturated garden, grabbing that ideal window where roots still slide out of the ground, but the seeds of winter bittercress aren’t yet popping.  Dave mowed the juiciest lawn I’ve ever seen.  We planted  campanulas from the English Nursery, Pink-flowered strawberries, globe thistle, gladiolas, and saxifragia.

The back walk is a “riot of blue” as Jen put it.  Yep.  Got the blue flower thing covered back there.  Almost too much?  Naw.  Starry eyes (the blue and white flowers in the header), Geranium ‘Rozzane’ (just planted), grape hyacinth, lungwort, anemones, forget-me-nots and brunneras all have their moment now and the glow from the shade is cool and pure.  Soon, other colors will mix in, but for a few weeks, blue has the stage.

Moved pots on the deck away from the house and into “summer” position.  Filled with soil and compost.

Dug out the old wisteria in the corners of the garden and sent them off with Jen where they are being given a chance for a lovely new life. (If I was a plant, I would love to live in Jen’s garden!)
